Involvement in the Claude Moore Scholars Program offers healthcare organizations a simple, effective way to build a strong pipeline of future talent. By investing in students today, organizations can ensure a steady supply of skilled professionals to meet the growing—and aging—population’s healthcare needs.
Organizations can have a role in the Claude Moore Scholars Program by providing participating high school students with:
- Clinical observations and rotations
- Mentorship and community network to promote workplace readiness
- A rigorous and state-of-the-art Health Sciences curricula
- Real-world experience to improve students’ qualifications when they enter the healthcare workforce
- Employment placement assistance and career support
Public School Systems K–12
The Claude Moore Scholars Program provides local school systems with grant funds to establish healthcare education programs for high school students that will meet local, regional, and state-wide workforce needs. These programs meet Virginia Department of Education course standards as well as provide additional opportunities for concurrent dual enrollment college credit and a variety of industry credentials.
High schools, community colleges, and universities commonly provide: health sciences curriculum delivery and professional certification preparation, academic and career mentoring, student performance monitoring, and support for community needs assessments.

VA Community College System
The Claude Moore Charitable Foundation supports local community colleges in providing education and training in health professions. Through these relationships, the Foundation is able to reach students in multiple jurisdictions through shared programs and resources. Current community college grantees include Laurel Ridge, Rappahannock, and Germanna. Other indirect community college grantees include Patrick and Henry, Tidewater and Virginia Western. The Foundation funded a position at the Virginia Community College System Office to coordinate between the 23 regional colleges.
