Who We Are

The Foundation was founded in 1987 by Dr. Claude Moore, physician and landowner who committed his estate to enhancing educational and charitable opportunities across Virginia. Our focus has been on practical solutions, collaborative action, and lasting impact to empower individuals and strengthen communities.

Claude Moore Opportunities

In 2024, the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation launched Claude Moore Opportunities (CMO), an independent 501(c)(3), to deepen Virginia’s investment in workforce education. CMO partners with schools, healthcare providers, employers, and community organizations to align training with real workforce needs—preparing students and adult learners for high-demand careers.

Led by CEO Dr. Bill A. Hazel, Jr., CMO is opening doors to opportunity across Virginia.
