PROGRAM FUNDING THAT EMPOWERS STUDENTS IN HEALTHCARE EDUCATION
Our Flagship Initiative
The Claude Moore Charitable Foundation’s flagship initiative is the Claude Moore Scholars Program. Conceived in 2005, the program funds school systems to create programs that equips high school students with the education and training needed to enter the workforce upon graduation. It empowers students to go onto a healthcare career that will support them and their families while fostering ongoing academic and professional growth through lifelong learning. Today, the Foundation funds 60 school districts across Virginia.
Building on these roots, the Foundation and its key stakeholders have developed the concept of the Healthcare Highway, modeled after Virginia’s Tech Talent Pipeline. This approach emphasizes early STEM engagement, increasing the rigor of high school instruction, and reducing barriers to higher education by funding dual enrollment costs, for example. It also creates meaningful educational and career pathways, recognizing that most individuals continue learning beyond age 22 and often transition across multiple careers over a lifetime.
